couldn’t get out of the bed because Charlie D’Agata is more civilized than me.

We, ordinary human beings, have been struggling with Covid-19 since two years ago. We lost our loved ones, got sick to death, lost our jobs and stability ect… . Some of us suffered more in the less developed countries because of adverse financial situation, lack of efficient health care services and facilities. For some of us, quarantine was not even an option as we have responsibility to take care of our family members.

While being desperate how to deal with this crisis, it happened to some of us to wake up and get shocked by the unannounced political change in our country without being able to exercise our self-determination right. Obviously, many lives, dreams and futures were destroyed due to the two simultaneous catastrophes.

A few days ago, we woke up to the horrible news of Russian aggression to Ukraine. Those of us, who already lived disasters, relived all the traumas and pains we had experienced. So we went to streets to show our solidarity with ukranian nation and opposition to the silence of the “civilized” states, because we learned by heart that wars push individuals behind, destroy economic development and kill the potentials of young generation.

This morning, I started my day, reading this statement of Charlie D’Agata, CBS news senior foreign correspondent : Ukraine “isn’t a place, with all due respect, like Iraq or Afghanistan, that has seen conflict raging for decades. This is a relatively civilized, European country”. It was exactly the time I felt disappointing dismay.

This is unbelievable to witness that in the 21st century vicious and immoral racists will be free to actively express their racism towards “not-civilized and relatively civilized nations” on the air.

I, as a not-civilized person coming from Middle East, indifferent to D’Agata’s meaningless apology, stand by the Ukrainians and do whatever is in my power to get my anti-war voice to the deaf ears of tyrants, rather wasting the time by disposing my brain’s waste on the media, which would have no impacts but offending millions of people.

Civilization has roots in the recognition of concepts like democracy, good governance, sustainability, sovereignty and respect of human rights not geographical location. Now the calculation is up on people like D’Agata to assess how highly civilized they personally are.
